It is a logical decision by EA. Even if they’re only after political points. The NFL and Madden have a sizable African American fandom, along with being essentially a US exclusive merchandise with minimal international appeal. Not the best time to fall info when one of your largest demographics & just market is to literal fire. From an advertising/marketing stage, theyve done this numerous times (smaller scale) for Battlefront 2. The CM said theyre looking to make the most spalsh as you can. If folks are out protesting = less viewers. And furthermore, lower online participation. On most social websites it’s impossible to discuss anything but the protests right now. They want people talking about the reveal but that could be drowned out by the much larger news right now.
Yeah, but they could have just as easily said”because of increasing tensions” or even delayed without mentioning anything. Consumers see EA for some of the dumb shit they do with games that they develop and publish, but they don’t see what they do for triggers like equality and office diversity (they’ve ever been given in multiple years). They are actually super progressive internally and should be praised for that. It is simple to be skeptical about this kind of thing, but they may just have easily avoided making a statement. I will preface this by stating I do not think it’s a bad thing for them to bring awareness to this issue. It’s significant that it can’t just be dismissed by taking a look from it. With that said, I do hold a certain amount of distrust towards multi-billion buck multinational corporations paying lip service to significant social issues. They’re in the best possible place to do more than simply put out a press release or public statement. Obviously, as a philosophical business they’re under no duty to do so, and it rings hollow when they try to stand in cheap Madden nfl 21 coins solidarity with the common people. Currently there are companies out there that are doing things and this is the time to emphasize those attempts; to show that they’re more than just words.
